AND는 나와 우리의 경계를 모른다. 나를 구성하는 것이 우리이기도 하기에. 그들은 우리(나)의 신체와 결부된 다양한 스케일의 환경에 시/공간적으로 배제 또는 잠재되어왔던 것들에 주목한다. 위계적인 구조에서 은폐되었던 다양하고 대립적인 가치와 욕망들을 드러내고 새롭게 배치하는 과정에서 건축적 비전을 제시하고 소위 문화적 비평의 기능을 수행한다.
AND는 내부와 외부의 경계를 모른다. 아니 지운다. 그들은 또한 공공과 개인, 도시와 시골, 세계와 지역, 자연과 인공 등의 환경조건들이 뚜렷한 경계(차이)를 잃어버리고 공생, 상호 번식(cross-fertilize)하는 것에 주목한다. 끊임없는 이종교배에 의해 모든 것이 기존의 가치를 상실하는 듯 보이지만, 한편 모든 것이 새롭게 지속되고 있는 역설적 현실에서 비옥한 대지의 충만함을 보았다. AND는 그곳에 양자택일과 동일성의 논리(or)가 아니라 타자의 긍정과 공존의 실천(and)이 가지는 잉여가치를 찾는다. 그들은 무엇으로 부르기 전에 이미 그곳에 꿈틀대는 힘을 감지하고, 번식시키는 행위를 통해 생성하는 차이의 건축(Architecture of Novel Differentiation)을 계속한다.
They do not know their name or origin. For them, existence is not “to be (is)” but “to be and, and, and.” Life, for them, is a movement of connection—an ongoing act of engaging with the surroundings through the very basis of their own body. Around 2010, they believed that the best way to sense the conditions of the contemporary environment was to survive within it with nothing but their bare bodies. AND does not recognize the boundary between “me” and “us.” What constitutes “me” is equally what constitutes “us.” They attend to the phenomena that have been spatially and temporally excluded or latent across various scales of environments intertwined with our (my) bodies. In the process of revealing and rearranging diverse and often conflicting values and desires that had been concealed within hierarchical structures, they propose architectural visions and perform what might be called a function of cultural critique.
AND does not recognize the boundary between inside and outside or rather, they erase it. They also note how the environmental conditions of public and private, urban and rural, global and local, natural and artificial have lost their distinct demarcations (their differences), and instead coexist and cross-fertilize. In a paradoxical reality where everything seems to be losing its former value through ceaseless hybridization, yet where everything is also continually renewed, they perceive the fullness of a fertile ground. There, AND seeks the surplus value not of the logic of binary choice and sameness (or), but of the affirmation of the Other and the practice of coexistence (and).
Before naming what something is, they sense the forces already stirring there, and through acts of propagation, they continue the Architecture of Novel Differentiation, which generates difference.
